VR Headset

VR Headsets can create a more immersive experience and help workers practice their skills even when they don't have access to the expensive and large instruments they have to work on. The realistic experience allows learners to make mistakes in a safe environment and get feedback to perfect their skills.

Emergency Situation Simulation

The immersive experience's ability to produce scenarios that are difficult or dangerous to produce in the real-world. While immersive virtual environments have been used for pilot and firefighter training, trades workers can also benefits from practicing what to do in an emergency situation in a safe, virtual environment. Immersive environments have shown success in training an individual's motor skills and spatial decision-making skills (Sowndararajan et al, 2008) which are important skills for on-site industry workers during an emergency.

Complex Procedure Simulation

Sowndararajan et al (2008) have shown that higher levels of immersion can be more effective in learning complex procedures, especially those that require spatial skills. For complex tasks, it could be worthwhile for crews to practice the procedure with each other in simulation before actually performing the task.
